6 Questions to ask when creating an interior design to fit your lifestyle

February 21, 2018 written by Itohan Ellis

Are you ready to make a  change to  one  of  the rooms  in  your home this year?

You might be tempted to jump right into your project - But Wait! Before you get started, don't forget to ask yourself these six important design questions!

WHO IS AFFECTED BY THE CHANGES?

Consider the needs of everyone that will use the redesigned or remodeled space - as well as understand how long they will need to use it for (kids going to college in a few years, for example).  Your design should work now and in the foreseeable future.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ROOM IN THE HOUSE AND WHY?

This simple question unlocks a wealth of useful information about your personal tastes, activities, likes and dislikes. This can then inform your design for the other areas or spaces being remodeled.

WHAT DON'T YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR CURRENT SPACE AND WHY?

Knowing what you DON'T like is just as powerful as knowing what you do like. Take a moment to assess your current space and determine what isn't working well for you, and why. Address this in your new design!

WHAT PART OF THE HOUSE DO YOU USE THE MOST?

Working out your routines and understanding how much time you spend in which areas will help you ensure your new design caters for these activities appropriately - and enhances them where possible.

WHAT PART OF THE HOUSE DO YOU USE THE LEAST?

Wasted space is a design crime. If you have an area that you rarely or never use, reconsider having it!

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?

Do some soul searching... there's simply no point creating a formal glamorous design if you are a kick-back informal type. The space won't work for you. Your home is where you should be able to be YOU.
